Santa Barbara the Beautiful

February 25, 2010 · 10:00 am

This shot was taken during my last family session. It reminded me of how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful place. Even though we will be moving in a few weeks (only a few miles away, don’t fret!), Santa Barbara will always be the comfort of home. It’s so good to be thankful for these little glimpses of how we are so richly blessed!

Maternally Dressed | The Challenge

February 24, 2010 · 10:00 am

I am finding that everyday clothes work well as maternity clothes (long tees and flowy tops) but when it comes to dressing up it is a CHALLENGE. I have many clients ask me where to shop for their maternity photo session and I am afraid I don’t have much to offer! I know the basics like Isabella Oliver, Designer Maternity, Target Maternity, Nordstrom Maternity, A Pea in the Pod and a few you may not know such as jessica iverson at maternity bride for gorgeous formals, Diane von Furstenberg’s stretch netting dresses and James Perse for yummy cotton dresses, shopstyle for variety of dresses, but rayon and satin just don’t seem to fit my photography style. I want earthy colors, long flowing dresses and skirts that are comfortable, possibly even cotton… are there any out there? Can they hear me? If you know of great place for maternity gowns or even just apparel that works for maternity please leave a comment or e-mail me!! In the meantime I will keep searching…

Bright Eyes

February 23, 2010 · 10:00 am

How pretty is this little one? I love this photo… might need to put it in canvas on the wall! It’s so hard to wait for my own little baby’s images to fill our house when these cuties are just irresistible!

So sad to see Rose & Ruby go…

February 19, 2010 · 10:00 am

One of the finer things of Australia that I have recently fallen in love with is Rose & Ruby. Their dresses are EXQUISITE. This one pictured is no longer available (Yes, I already tried!) but there are many more dresses on sale right now. Rose & Ruby will be taking a break for a few seasons and we will sure miss them! In the meantime, shop here for gorgeous silk dresses before they are gone. If you are like me, in the U.S., just e-mail the styles you like and what size (1, 2 or 3) and Rose & Ruby will let you know what is available. Happy Shopping!

Cooper

February 17, 2010 · 10:00 am

Well maybe I am biased, but this little boy is one of my very best friends under 5 years old. I watched him a few hours a week last year and just fell in love! He is the smartest, funniest, most creative little guy I have ever witnessed (and my hubby almost got jealous btw, ha!). Here is a sneak peak from his family session with more to come (including his gorgeous baby sister). And because I can’t resist, here are my favorite moments with Cooper:

-The time I came over to play and he was on the couch and said, “Sorry Meg, I’m busy right now.”

-When we play catch the skunk around his house (imaginary of course!)

-His funny phase where he would all of a sudden say, “Don’t change the subject (pronounced sujict)!!”

The world of Prenatal Yoga

February 16, 2010 · 10:00 am

prenatal-yoga Thanks to being in the second trimester, I can do yoga and I feel amazing! I have tried about five DVDs of prenatal yoga and to be honest, they are all a bit cheesy and way to easy for me. But FINALLY I found one last week. It’s by Jennifer Wolfe and she has two DVDs, one with a 75 min practice and another with shorter practices (for busy days) as well as birth and labor poses. The great part? She is also a doula!

I have also gone to class at Yoga Soup, my personal favorite (maybe because they always have farmer’s market goodies on the table for munching?). I took class there consistently all of last spring and loved every minute. If you are not pregnant and a yogi and you want a yoga class that will take you further than you have ever gone, go to Deb Dobbin’s class on Wednesday evening or Saturday morning. Believe me… her class is packed for a reason. But it is specific class is NOT for pregnant women…. again, not for pregnant mamas!!

There are a few options in the area for pre-natal yoga.  In Santa Barbara, both the Santa Barbara Yoga Center and Yoga Soup as I mentioned, offer classes by local favorite Siddhi Ellinghoven who teaches pre-natal yoga classes Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.  I haven’t experienced one of her classes personally, but have heard wonderful things about attending —from meeting other pregnant ladies to preparing you for labor to even keeping down that swelling so many women seem to face.

Here are some other options in the area:

I am sure there are others I am missing as well, so please let me know if you’ve had great experiences somewhere else—both group and private classes. Well ladies, grab your mats and get active! It’s one of the best things you can do for yourself and your baby!
